Community Connection Center Mural
I've contracted with the United Way of Vermillion to complete a community-driven mural inside their new home at the Community Connection Center, 9 Court Street, Vermillion.
The new Community Connection Center is a place where those in need can receive assistance, moving from crisis to stability, and ultimately, self-sufficiency. It serves as a one-stop-shop for multiple services, including, but not limited to, United Way of Vermillion, the Vermillion Food Pantry, the Weekend Backpack Program, The Welcome Table, and Salvation Army. With a poverty rate of over 35%, and a food insecurity rate that is nearly double that of our neighboring counties (17%), financial insecurity is commonplace.
As the largest and most communal room in the Community Connection Center, the Leroy N. Meyer Community Room welcomes in scores of community members each week during Monday evening Welcome Table dinners, as well as for special events and meetings. In keeping with the intention of creating a welcoming, inclusive, and uplifting environment, I'm pleased to be underway in the creation of a community-informed mural to help create that welcoming space.
The mural is in progress through fall of 2020, with an estimated completion of early December, 2020.
