Community Connection Center Mural
In Fall of 2020, I contracted with the United Way of Vermillion to create a community-driven mural inside their home at the Community Connection Center, 9 Court Street, Vermillion.
The Community Connection Center is a place where those in need can receive assistance, moving from crisis to stability, and ultimately, self-sufficiency. It serves as a one-stop-shop for multiple services, including, but not limited to, United Way of Vermillion, the Vermillion Food Pantry, the Weekend Backpack Program, The Welcome Table, and Salvation Army. With a poverty rate of over 35%, and a food insecurity rate that is nearly double that of our neighboring counties (17%), financial insecurity is commonplace.
As the largest and most communal room in the Community Connection Center, the Leroy N. Meyer Community Room welcomes in scores of community members each week during Monday evening Welcome Table dinners, as well as for special events and meetings. In keeping with the intention of creating a welcoming, inclusive, and uplifting environment, I'm pleased to have been able to create a community-informed mural to support that welcoming atmosphere.
